DTL-1 lugs join an aluminium cable to a copper terminal, such as a transformer bushing, switchgear or busbar. The aluminium barrel is crimped onto the cable, while the copper palm is bolted to the copper terminal.
The friction-welded joint between the two metals prevents the electrochemical corrosion that occurs when aluminium and copper touch directly, giving a stable, low-resistance connection over many years.
